  • 8 slices of honey wheat sandwich bread
  • 1 can of tuna drained
  • 1 ½ teaspoons of creamy mayonnaise
  • ¾ teaspoon of smooth Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon of tangy sweet pickle relish
  • Thinly sliced red onion rings
  • Fresh tomato slices
  • ½ teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh parsley
  • A pinch of sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Let’s roll up our sleeves and get into the preparation!

Step 1: Prepare the Tuna Salad

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, sweet pickle relish, lemon juice, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are fully blended. You should aim for a creamy consistency, but not overly mushy.

Step 2: Slice the Vegetables

  • While your tuna salad is coming together, slice your red onions and tomatoes. Aim for paper-thin onion slices and sturdy tomato slices. This way, each bite is filled with crunch and sweetness.

Step 3: Toast the Bread (Optional)

  • If you prefer a bit of crunch and warmth, you can toast the honey wheat bread until it’s lightly golden. This step can make a significant difference in texture.

Step 4: Assemble the Sandwich

  • Spread a generous amount of the tuna salad mix onto one slice of your chosen bread. Lay down the tomato slices and onion rings on top. Place another slice of bread over, and you’re almost done!

Step 5: Slice and Serve

  • Cut the sandwich in half. If you prefer, you can serve the sandwich whole, but cutting it reveals its colorful filling.
