Round Rock Donuts have been a beloved Texas tradition since the 1930s. The donut shop is famous for its delicious donuts and has been the go-to spot for many donut lovers in the area.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, baking soda, and baking powder.
In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then add in the sour cream and vanilla extract. Whisk until well combined.
Slowly pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
On a floured surface, knead the dough for 2-3 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness and use a donut cutter or large round cookie cutter to cut out the donuts.
In a deep fryer or deep skillet, heat vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
Carefully add 3-4 donuts to the hot oil at a time, frying for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
Use tongs or a slotted spoon to remove the donuts from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain off any excess oil.
While the donuts are still warm, toss them in a bowl of sugar until they are evenly coated.
Serve the donuts warm and enjoy!
Notes
• Make sure to heat the oil to the correct temperature before frying the donuts.• If the donuts are cooking too quickly, turn the heat down a bit.• Don’t overcrowd the pan when frying the donuts.• You can also add a few drops of food coloring to the dough for a fun twist.• If the donuts are too greasy, place them on a wire rack for a few minutes before coating with sugar.• If the donuts are too moist, bake them in a preheated 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for a few minutes.
