Ingredients

  • 1 head thinly sliced green cabbage
  • 1/2 head thinly sliced red cabbage
  • 2 teaspoon celery seed
  • 6 peeled julienne carrots
  • 1 peeled and thinly sliced yellow onion
  • 1/2 cup thinly sliced green onions
  • salt and pepper to taste

For The Dressing

  • 2/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 6 tablespoons buttermilk

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, mix together the thinly sliced green and red cabbage, celery seed, julienne carrots, yellow onion, and green onions.
  • In a separate smaller bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sugar, salt and pepper, apple cider vinegar and buttermilk.
  • Pour the dressing over the vegetables and mix well until all the ingredients are evenly coated.
  • Add more salt and pepper to taste, if needed.
  • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
  • Serve chilled as a side dish or snack alongside your favorite barbecue dishes.

Notes

  • For a healthier version, you can substitute the mayonnaise with Greek yogurt or a combination of mayo and yogurt.
  • Add more vegetables such as shredded broccoli, bell peppers, or radishes for extra crunch and flavor.
  • For added flavor, consider adding some shredded cheese or crumbled bacon to the coleslaw.
  • For a healthier option, you can use Greek yogurt in place of mayonnaise.
  • You can also add other vegetables such as bell peppers or broccoli to the coleslaw for added nutrition and flavor.
  • If preparing ahead of time, wait until just before serving to mix the dressing with the vegetables to prevent the coleslaw from becoming soggy.
