Equipment

  • Heat stove
  • A large skillet
  • Measuring spoon
  • Mixing bowl

Ingredients

  • 2 Large Green Tomato
  • 2 Tablespoon of white lily flour
  • 6 tablespoons of buttermilk
  • Salt and pepper as per taste
  • 2 Tablespoon of cornmeal
  • Cooking oil

Instructions

  • Slice the green tomatoes into 1/4 inch slices and set aside.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the buttermilk, flour, cornmeal, salt and pepper. Mix well until there are no lumps in the batter.
  • Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Dip each tomato slice into the batter, making sure it is evenly coated.
  • Carefully place the battered tomato slices into the hot oil and fry for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  • Remove the fried green tomatoes from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain any excess oil.
  • Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce or enjoy as is!

Notes

• Make sure to use fresh, ripe green tomatoes for this recipe.
• Be sure not to crowd the pan when frying the tomatoes, as this will cause them to steam instead of fry.
• You can store the fried green tomatoes in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
• To reheat the tomatoes, simply place them on a baking sheet and bake in a 350°F oven for 10-15 minutes, or until warmed through.
