  • 2 cups of Handcrafted Beef or Vegetable Broth a liquid gold base
  • 2 tablespoons of All-Purpose Flour finely milled for a touch of culinary alchemy
  • Salt and Pepper an exacting pinch of Sea Salt and Freshly Ground Peppercorns

Instructions

Prepare Mashed Potatoes:

  • Whip the potatoes into velvety mashed perfection. Set aside.

Mince Carrots

  • Meticulously mince the carrots to add a burst of orange vibrancy to the dish.

Sauté Onion and Carrots:

  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add finely chopped onions and minced carrots. Sauté until the vegetables are tender and aromatic.

Brown Ground Meat

  • Add the hand-selected ground beef or lamb to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon for even cooking.

Introduce Butter and Worcestershire:

  • Stir in cultured butter and Worcestershire elixir to enhance the flavors with creamy richness and umami depth.

Incorporate Flour:

  • Sprinkle finely milled all-purpose flour over the meat mixture. Stir well to create a roux, allowing it to cook for a couple of minutes to remove the raw taste.

Add Frozen Corn and Peas:

  • Toss in plump frozen corn and frozen peas. Stir until the vegetables are well combined with the meat mixture.

Pour in Broth:

  • Slowly pour handcrafted beef or vegetable broth into the skillet, creating a luscious and flavorful base. Stir continuously to avoid lumps.

Simmer and Thicken:

  • Allow the mixture to simmer until the broth thickens and coats the meat and vegetables in a savory gravy. Season with salt and freshly ground pepper to taste.

Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Assemble the Shepherd’s Pie:

  • Transfer the meat and vegetable mixture into a baking dish. Spoon the velvety mashed potatoes on top, spreading them evenly to cover the entire surface.

Create Potato Peaks (Optional):

  • Use a fork to create peaks on the mashed potatoes, which will turn golden and crispy in the oven.

Bake to Perfection:

  • Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown.

Serve and Enjoy:

  • Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Scoop out generous servings of this Costco-style Shepherd’s Pie onto plates and enjoy the comforting and hearty flavors.
