- 8 cups wheat or all purpose flour
- 2 cup butter shortening or lard can also be used
- 3 teaspoon baking powder
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 3 teaspoon salt
- 2 cup sugar
- 1 cup warm milk
In a large mixing bowl, combine 8 cups flour, 2 tsp baking powder, and 3 tsp salt.
Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
In a separate small bowl, beat 4 eggs with a fork and then add to the dry ingredients.
Add in 1 cup of warm milk and 1/2 cup of water to the mixture.
Knead the dough until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 20 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Divide the dough into small balls, approximately the size of a golf ball.
Roll out each ball with a rolling pin on a floured surface until it reaches about 1/4 inch thickness.
Mix together 2 cups of sugar and 3 tsp of ground cinnamon in a shallow dish.
Dip each rolled-out dough in the cinnamon sugar mixture, making sure it is evenly coated.
Place the dough on a non-stick baking sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.
Repeat with remaining dough balls until they are all baked.
Serve warm and enjoy your delicious Gorditas de Azucar!
