Equipment

  • oven
  • skillet

Ingredients

  • 1/2 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1.5 cups oysters liquid reserved
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1.5 large eggs beaten
  • 4 cups dry bread crumbs
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Baking Dish:

  • Grease a baking dish or casserole dish and set it aside. The size of the dish will depend on the quantity of dressing you are making.

Saute Vegetables:

  • In a skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped celery and onions. Saute until they are tender, typically for about 5-7 minutes. Set aside to cool.

Prepare Bread Crumbs:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry bread crumbs and chopped fresh parsley.

Add Sauteed Vegetables:

  • Add the sauteed celery and onions to the bread crumbs mixture. Mix well to combine.

Prepare Oysters:

  • Drain the oysters, reserving the liquid. Chop the oysters into smaller pieces if they are large.

Combine Oysters with Mixture:

  • Add the chopped oysters to the bread crumb mixture and gently combine.

Prepare Liquid Mixture:

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the beaten eggs, reserved oyster liquid, salt, poultry seasoning, dried thyme, and ground black pepper.

Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures:

  • Pour the liquid mixture over the bread crumb and oyster mixture. Gently fold everything together until well combined.

Transfer to Baking Dish:

  • Transfer the dressing mixture to the greased baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

Bake:

  • Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 30-40 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the dressing is cooked through.

Serve:

  • Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve the Pepperidge Farm Oyster Dressing as a delicious side dish for your holiday meal or any special occasion.

Notes

– Make sure to dice the vegetables into small pieces so that they cook evenly.
– If the dressing is too thick, add a little more white wine to thin it out.
– You can also use other vegetables or herbs and spices to customize the flavor of the dressing.
– Use freshly-shucked oysters for the best flavor.
– If you want to add a bit of heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the dressing.
– Store the dressing in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
