- All-purpose flour- 5 cups.
- Butter flavored shortening / Frozen unsalted butter- 2 cup.
- Salt- 2 tsp as per taste.
- Granulated sugar- 4 tsp.
- Butter- 6 tsp.
- Baking powder- 2 tsp.
- Buttermilk / whole milk- 1 cup.
- Honey- 8 tsp.
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder.
Add in the butter flavored shortening or frozen unsalted butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix it into the dry ingredients until it forms small pea-sized crumbles.
In a separate bowl, mix together the buttermilk or whole milk with 6 tsp of melted butter and 8 tsp of tupelo honey.
Slowly pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture and gently stir until just combined. The dough should still be slightly lumpy.
On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness and cut into desired shapes using a biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass.
Place the biscuits onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until lightly golden on top.
Serve warm and enjoy the delicious taste of tupelo honey in every bite.
– Make sure your butter and buttermilk are at room temperature.
– For a lighter biscuit, use a light hand when kneading the dough.
– Use a sharp biscuit cutter for best results.
– For a sweeter biscuit, add a tablespoon of sugar to the dough.
– For a crispier biscuit, brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter before baking.
– For a richer biscuit, substitute half of the buttermilk with heavy cream.
